I recently rearranged some of the rooms in my house in order to make space for a playroom that is solely devoted to my children, who are 3 and 6 years old. I envisioned a place where the children’s toys and supplies could be stored in a manner that was (at least somewhat) organized, but that was also engaging for them and easy for them to access. Due to the limited space, proper organization is absolutely necessary.
Baskets
These baskets are of the highest quality. They are able to accommodate an infinite number of toys and are sturdy. I’d like to express gratitude to iheartorganizing for both the link and the inspiration. After reading a post that she had written on her blog about them, I became interested in looking for other ones and ended up going back to Target.com, as she had recommended. However, throughout the course of my two weeks of window shopping, Target increased their pricing from 44 dollars (for 4) to 51 dollars (for 4). Consequently, my advice is that you purchase them right away. The price increasers at Target are unpredictable.
Accessories for Chalkboards
Totally dig this. In addition to having an adorable appearance, it is the ideal size for both the chalk and the eraser! Because it is mounted on the wall above the chalkboard table, it does not take up any additional floor or tabletop space. You’ll find this in the section of IKEA dedicated to organizing kitchens. I wasn’t blown away by how inexpensive it was, especially since it was from IKEA, but I believe that when all the pieces were purchased and assembled, it came to about $25–$30. (sold separately.) If you ask me, it was well worth every penny.
Closet Art Supply Hanger
People are also utilizing this device as a shoe organizer, which I am sure was not the product’s initial intended use; nonetheless, I am confident that this was the intended application for the product. I was able to pick it up at Lowe’s for somewhere around ten dollars, and I’ll tell you what: It is fantastic. It has been the single most helpful improvement I could have made to the playroom for my children because it offers so much storage space. We keep art supplies, packets of Easy Bake Oven, Moon Dough and molds, beads, Old Maid Cards, and even directions for other toys right at the very top of the container. This item is wonderful to me. It is going to take everything I have in me to resist the want to go buy one for each door in my house.
Crates for Books
I would love it if my kids would read! Therefore, I decided to provide people with options and to make the books appealing and easy to access. I would like to designate a space in our playroom specifically for the children’s book collection. Not necessarily the entire collection of the family library, but a few volumes from the Junie B. Jones series and some decent Fancy Nancy reads. Because of our space constraints, I decided to take a slightly different approach and try to make use of the area under our window instead. As you can see, we also use it for toys, and it functions really well in that capacity.
Exhibits of Art
I am not the type of person who likes to “slap a thousand art projects on the fridge,” so I absolutely adore this. I believe I was able to purchase some clipboards at Office Depot for five dollars for three of them, and then I painted them with blackboard paint. If you use the brush on latex, you have the freedom to be messy since, as it dries, the latex will peel off of the metal. It was a much simpler process than taping off the clip. And I spray painted some letters. The children can either color directly on the clipboards or use them to hang their finished works. Both options are now available to them.
Small Jars
These are perfect for storing little things like toy cars, polly pockets, and other trinkets that tend to go lost at the bottom of toy chests and are never seen again. My personal favorite thing that we keep in them is all of the Nerf discs and darts that are compatible with the many different play guns that we own. It brings me so much joy to provide a home for them. At IKEA, these go for 2.99 dollars each. I want like 6 more. When I put some chalkboard labels on them, they are going to look super cute.
Garbage Pails
These are the best of the bunch. My husband has an irrational aversion to “fake food,” therefore in order for it to have a place in our home, we need to find a way to accommodate his dislike. As a result, I was able to locate these, and I fashioned a quaint small abode for the pretend food and kitchen utensils. It is fantastic, and it is located just next to the kitchen. It has a cute appearance!
Wall with Chalkboard
Chalkboard paint can be applied to a wall (or a piece of a wall), and once it has dried, you can write instructions for where to put various supplies and toys on shelves. Due to the fact that chalk can be erased, you won’t have any trouble moving things around or rearranging them as often as you like with this method.
Chalk Holders
You need a nice-looking chalk holder to complement your brand-new blackboard wall. It’s important to make a good first impression. Instead of using jars or boxes, choose this method because it is less likely to result in a messy or uncomfortable situation. Simply remove the handles off of the dressers, turn them over so that they are facing the opposite direction, and attach them to the wall. Bam, you’ve got a quick chalk holder!
Merchandise Shelving
Put shoe racks on an angle by tilting them slightly, and then fasten them to the walls in the room. This is an excellent method for storing art collections as well as children’s toys. The angle provides full visibility and easy access for anybody who enters, making it simple and expedient for them to find what they need.
Desk Cubes
This is an absolute necessity if you are looking for a simple method to get several uses out of your playroom or art studio. When the rolling cubes are put together, they can form a large table that can be used by all of the children in the family. Individually, the rolling cubes serve as storage and toy bins for each child.
Magnets
Consider purchasing a powerful magnet for your children if they have a habit of misplacing their small metal vehicles or other types of toys made of metal on a regular basis. You can position it so that it is low, making it simple for the children to get to whenever they want to play.
